Construction Worker (Bricklaying Assistant)

The school construction project in Mokopane needs skilled hands and helpers who know the basics of the building trade. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

The site is in Mokopane; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Clean your tools and sweep your work area before knocking off
• Cut, bend and tie reinforcing steel to the bending schedule
• Build and strip formwork for columns, beams and slabs
• Carry bricks and materials to the workface and keep the scaffold clear
• Fix roof trusses, purlins and brandering for ceilings
• Plaster walls and float them to a smooth, even finish

• Physically strong enough for a full day of lifting and bending outside
• Able to follow a foreman's instructions and read basic measurements
• Proven experience in at least one trade, shown by references or a practical test
• Willing to move between sites in the same city
• Punctual every morning, even in winter

• Weekly or fortnightly pay, always on time
• PPE supplied: hard hat, gloves, reflective vest
• UIF and COIDA registration from day one

• Say which trade you are strongest in first. "Bricklayer, 6 years, face brick" is better than "general construction".
• Bring photos of your work on your phone. A foreman believes a straight wall more than a long CV.
