Job Description

From MV switchgear to PLCs, this municipal electricity department in Midrand needs a sharp electrical engineer. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

You'll be based at a municipal electricity department in Midrand. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

The work, day to day

Inspect installations and sign off compliance on completion
Review PLC and SCADA logic for process control and alarms
Plan maintenance for switchgear, transformers and motor control centres
Investigate power quality problems with a power analyser
Set and test protection relays and keep settings records

Must-haves

ECSA registration as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Candidate
Strong understanding of SANS 10142 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
At least 3 years of electrical engineering work after graduating
Code 08 licence and willingness to travel to sites
BEng or BSc Eng in Electrical Engineering, or a BTech or Advanced Diploma for technologist posts
Experience with at least one power system or lighting design package
