Job Description

Power has to be safe, reliable and legal. The municipal electricity department in Umhlanga needs you to make it so. People who do well here are steady, honest and not scared to ask when something is unclear.

You'll report in Umhlanga. Relocation is not covered for this one. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

The work, day to day

Inspect installations and sign off compliance on completion
Size cables, transformers and protection using design software
Design LV and MV reticulation to SANS 10142-1 and SANS 10142-2
Investigate power quality problems with a power analyser
Draw up tender specifications and bills of quantities for electrical works

Must-haves

Code 08 licence and willingness to travel to sites
Strong understanding of SANS 10142 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
BEng or BSc Eng in Electrical Engineering, or a BTech or Advanced Diploma for technologist posts
ECSA registration as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Candidate

Extra points for

Government Certificate of Competency (Electrical, Factories or Mines)
PLC programming certification
Protection or HV operating authorisation
