Creche Assistant (Baby Room)

Little ones at a community creche in Mthatha learn through play, and you'll set up that play. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

The site is in Mthatha; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Watch children closely outside and keep the play area safe
• Prepare simple, nutritious snacks and keep the kitchen hygienic
• Chat to parents at drop-off and pick-up about how the day went
• Plan themes and holiday programmes with the principal
• Feed, change and settle babies and toddlers on their routine
• Follow the NCF daily programme and adapt it for each age group
• Run morning ring with songs, weather and counting

• Warm, patient and energetic with small children
• Able to follow hygiene and safety routines without cutting corners
• Clear Form 30 child protection check and police clearance
• ECD Level 4 or Level 5 qualification, or currently studying towards one

• Experience with children with special needs
• Speak more than one home language of the children you'll teach

• Lunch provided on school days
• Sponsored ECD Level 5 studies
• Short holiday closures over December and Easter

• Apply for the Form 30 check early, as it can take weeks and many creches won't appoint without it.
• Put your ECD level and first aid certificate in the first lines of your CV; creches check these before anything else.
