Debtors Clerk (Credit Control)

Recons that balance and suppliers who get paid right: that's the job at a property management company in Epping. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at a property management company in Epping. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Match orders, delivery notes and invoices before a payment goes out
• Send customer statements and phone accounts that are over 60 days
• Reconcile creditors statements and sort out differences with suppliers
• Capture supplier invoices and customer receipts on Sage or Xero
• Run petty cash and file slips with proper supporting documents
• Reconcile bank accounts daily and clear unallocated items
• Prepare VAT201 workings for the accountant to submit on SARS eFiling

• At least 2 years of hands-on bookkeeping or clerk work
• Understanding of VAT input and output rules
• Bookkeeping certificate or diploma (ICB, FASSET learnership or similar)
• Good with Excel: VLOOKUP, pivot tables and simple formulas
• Accurate with figures and careful with supplier bank details

• Office hours with no weekend work
• Thirteenth cheque at many small firms
• Paid study leave for bookkeeping exams

• Recruiters often give a short Excel or recon test, so practise a bank recon before the interview.
• Say how far you take the books, for example "to trial balance" or "to management accounts"; it tells recruiters your level.
