Development Miner (Hard Rock)

This underground platinum mine near Kuruman needs a miner who makes every workplace safe before a single hole is drilled. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

Location: Kuruman, Northern Cape. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Record face advance, tons broken and support installed on the shift report
• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Book explosives in and out of the magazine and keep the register accurate
• Do the early entry examination and make the workplace safe before the crew enters

• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act
• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards
• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner

• Rock engineering or ventilation short courses
• Shift Supervisor certificate or Mine Overseer learning

• Medical aid and mine medical station access
• Housing or living-out allowance
• Pension fund with employer contributions
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved

• Mines check your safety record with previous employers. Mention any safety awards or zero-harm periods your crew achieved.
• Be honest about any section 54 stoppages you were involved in and what you changed after.
