Development Miner (Hard Rock)

Underground, the miner sets the pace and the safety standard. This mechanised hard-rock mine near Polokwane needs that person. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

This post is Polokwane-based, with most of your time spent at a mechanised hard-rock mine. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Test for flammable gas and check ventilation before and after blasting
• Mark off drilling holes to the standard pattern and check the drilling
• Record face advance, tons broken and support installed on the shift report
• Charge up holes and connect initiation systems for the blast
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Clear the area, post guards and blast on time as the blasting certificate allows
• Book explosives in and out of the magazine and keep the register accurate

• Sound knowledge of your commodity's mining method and support standards
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act
• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• No serious safety transgressions in your record
• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required

• Experience in trackless mechanised sections
• First aid certificate current

• Housing or living-out allowance
• Underground allowance for every shift below surface
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved
• Pension fund with employer contributions

• Mines check your safety record with previous employers. Mention any safety awards or zero-harm periods your crew achieved.
• List each mine, commodity and mining method on your CV, like "conventional stoping, platinum, 4 years".
