Development Miner (Hard Rock)

This chrome and manganese mine near Richards Bay needs a miner who makes every workplace safe before a single hole is drilled. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is in Richards Bay (KwaZulu-Natal). Please only apply if you can travel there daily. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Test for flammable gas and check ventilation before and after blasting
• Hold a start-of-shift safety talk and deal with any unsafe condition
• Report misfires straight away and handle them strictly by the procedure
• Stop work when a condition is unsafe, using your right to withdraw
• Mark off drilling holes to the standard pattern and check the drilling
• Do the early entry examination and make the workplace safe before the crew enters
• Book explosives in and out of the magazine and keep the register accurate

• At least 3 years underground, with at least 1 as a certificated miner
• Valid blasting certificate issued under the Mine Health and Safety Act
• Certificate of fitness from the mine medical station, including heat tolerance screening where required
• Grade 12 or equivalent, plus the MQA-accredited miner training
• No serious safety transgressions in your record

• Shift Supervisor certificate or Mine Overseer learning
• Experience in trackless mechanised sections
• First aid certificate current

• Housing or living-out allowance
• Medical aid and mine medical station access
• Production bonus based on metres or square metres achieved
• Underground allowance for every shift below surface

• List each mine, commodity and mining method on your CV, like "conventional stoping, platinum, 4 years".
• Be honest about any section 54 stoppages you were involved in and what you changed after.
