Diesel Fitter (Forklift Fleet)

You'll service and repair heavy diesel vehicles for the earthmoving plant hire company in Alberton. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

This post is Alberton-based, with most of your time spent at an earthmoving plant hire company. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Diagnose electronic engine faults with a heavy-duty diagnostic laptop
• Carry out pre-roadworthy checks before the vehicle goes for COF testing
• Repair gearboxes, differentials and clutches on heavy vehicles
• Record parts used and hours worked on the fleet system
• Fault-find AdBlue and aftertreatment systems on newer engines
• Service trucks and trailers on the planned maintenance schedule

• Willing to do standby and roadside call-outs
• At least 3 years on heavy commercial vehicles or plant
• Solid understanding of air brake systems
• Code 14 licence so you can move and test trucks

• PrDP for road tests with loaded vehicles
• Auto electrical skills
• Brand-specific heavy vehicle courses

• Overtime available most weeks
• Standby and call-out allowance
• Heavy-duty tools supplied by the workshop

• Mention roadside or field experience. Many fleets need mechanics who can work alone at a breakdown.
• Your Code 14 is a big plus. Put it right below your name, not at the bottom of the CV.
