Diesel Mechanic (Heavy Commercial Trucks)

You'll service and repair heavy diesel vehicles for the truck dealership workshop in Umhlanga. It suits someone who likes knowing exactly what a good day's work looks like.

This post is Umhlanga-based, with most of your time spent at a truck dealership workshop. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Repair gearboxes, differentials and clutches on heavy vehicles
• Carry out pre-roadworthy checks before the vehicle goes for COF testing
• Fault-find AdBlue and aftertreatment systems on newer engines
• Diagnose electronic engine faults with a heavy-duty diagnostic laptop
• Record parts used and hours worked on the fleet system
• Inspect tyres, fifth wheels and kingpins for wear and damage
• Repair hydraulics on tippers, cranes and tail-lifts

• Physically fit for work under trucks and on pits
• Code 14 licence so you can move and test trucks
• Experience with electronic diagnostics on modern diesel engines
• Solid understanding of air brake systems
• Willing to do standby and roadside call-outs

• Auto electrical skills
• Hydraulic systems training
• Brand-specific heavy vehicle courses
