Dispensary Assistant (Hospital Pharmacy)

You'll help a private hospital dispensary in Roodepoort dispense scripts, manage stock and advise patients at the counter. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

The work is in Roodepoort, Gauteng, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

• Explain dosage, storage and side effects to patients in plain language
• Log Schedule 5 and 6 items in the register as they go out
• Help customers choose over-the-counter and front-shop products
• Capture scripts on the dispensing system and check them against medical aid rules
• Record cold-chain fridge temperatures twice a day
• Pick, count and label medicine for the pharmacist's final check
• Process medical aid claims and fix rejections before the patient leaves

• Matric with Maths or Maths Literacy
• Working knowledge of a dispensing system such as Unisolv, Proscript or Healthbridge-linked software
• Able to work Saturdays and some Sundays on a rotation
• SAPC registration as a Pharmacist's Assistant (Basic or Post-Basic)

• Wound care or family planning counselling short course
• Registered for the Post-Basic qualification if you currently hold Basic
• Experience in a courier or chronic medication pharmacy

• Paid SAPC registration fees at some groups
• Sponsored Post-Basic studies for Basic assistants
• Fixed rota published a month ahead
