Domestic Helper (3 Days a Week)

You'll keep a retired couple's cottage in Mthatha clean, calm and running smoothly for the family. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is Mthatha-based, with most of your time spent at a retired couple's cottage.

• Help an elderly person with meals, medication reminders and light walking
• Water indoor plants and feed pets
• Keep a list of cleaning supplies running low for the employer
• Get children ready for school and supervise homework in the afternoon
• Wash, hang, iron and fold the household's laundry
• Clean windows and patio doors once a week
• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards

• Able to speak and understand basic English
• South African ID or valid work permit
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines
• Neat, organised and able to work without being supervised
• Good with children and patient

• Transport money for live-out staff
• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires
• Registered for UIF and COIDA by the employer

• Ask for a written contract and to be registered for UIF. Good employers expect the question and it protects you.
• Families hire on trust, so make references your strongest part. Write the employer's name, suburb, years worked and phone number for each one.
