Domestic Helper (3 Days a Week) – Permanent

Cleaning, laundry and a hand with the kids: that is the week in a guesthouse with family quarters in Roodepoort. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at a guesthouse with family quarters in Roodepoort. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Keep a list of cleaning supplies running low for the employer
• Help an elderly person with meals, medication reminders and light walking
• Get children ready for school and supervise homework in the afternoon
• Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas on a weekly rotation
• Wash, hang, iron and fold the household's laundry
• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards
• Prepare simple meals or school lunches when asked

• South African ID or valid work permit
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines
• Able to handle a full-day physical routine
• Neat, organised and able to work without being supervised
• Good with children and patient

• Non-smoker
• Experience caring for an older person

• Written contract with fixed hours and duties
• Transport money for live-out staff
• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires
• Own room with bathroom for live-in posts

• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
• Families hire on trust, so make references your strongest part. Write the employer's name, suburb, years worked and phone number for each one.
