Domestic Helper (3 Days a Week)

Cleaning, laundry and a hand with the kids: that is the week in a townhouse in a security complex in Sandton. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

Home base is a townhouse in a security complex on the Sandton side of Gauteng. Shifts rotate, so you'll need to be flexible about days and nights.

• Prepare simple meals or school lunches when asked
• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards
• Help an elderly person with meals, medication reminders and light walking
• Wash, hang, iron and fold the household's laundry
• Keep a list of cleaning supplies running low for the employer
• Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas on a weekly rotation

• Able to handle a full-day physical routine
• Able to speak and understand basic English
• Trustworthy, with references from previous employers you can share
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines
• Good with children and patient
• Neat, organised and able to work without being supervised

• Basic first aid or child CPR course
• Non-smoker
• Cooking experience with family meals

• Written contract with fixed hours and duties
• Transport money for live-out staff
• Own room with bathroom for live-in posts
• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires

• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
• Families hire on trust, so make references your strongest part. Write the employer's name, suburb, years worked and phone number for each one.
