Domestic Worker with Elderly Care

Cleaning, laundry and a hand with the kids: that is the week in a guesthouse with family quarters in George. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

This post is George-based, with most of your time spent at a guesthouse with family quarters. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards
• Clean windows and patio doors once a week
• Water indoor plants and feed pets
• Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas on a weekly rotation
• Change bed linen and make beds
• Keep a list of cleaning supplies running low for the employer

• South African ID or valid work permit
• Neat, organised and able to work without being supervised
• Able to speak and understand basic English
• Good with children and patient
• Able to handle a full-day physical routine
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines

• Experience caring for an older person
• Non-smoker
• Basic first aid or child CPR course

• Written contract with fixed hours and duties
• Registered for UIF and COIDA by the employer
• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires

• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
• Ask for a written contract and to be registered for UIF. Good employers expect the question and it protects you.
