ECD Practitioner (Toddler Class)

Little ones at a workplace day care centre in Germiston learn through play, and you'll set up that play. This role rewards consistency more than flash.

This post is Germiston-based, with most of your time spent at a workplace day care centre. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Observe each child and note milestones in their development file
• Follow the NCF daily programme and adapt it for each age group
• Watch children closely outside and keep the play area safe
• Set up daily learning areas for art, blocks, reading and fantasy play
• Run morning ring with songs, weather and counting
• Feed, change and settle babies and toddlers on their routine
• Help aftercare learners with homework and reading

• ECD Level 4 or Level 5 qualification, or currently studying towards one
• Clear Form 30 child protection check and police clearance
• Matric
• Able to follow hygiene and safety routines without cutting corners

• Basic music, art or movement skills for group activities
• Experience with children with special needs

• Apply for the Form 30 check early, as it can take weeks and many creches won't appoint without it.
• Put your ECD level and first aid certificate in the first lines of your CV; creches check these before anything else.
