Job Description

Got your trade test and a steady hand on a DB board? This residential electrical contractor in Tzaneen needs you on the tools. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll report in Tzaneen. Relocation is not covered for this one. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

The work, day to day

  • Test installations and issue Certificates of Compliance where your registration allows
  • Complete job cards, material lists and test reports at the end of each job
  • Install inverters, battery banks and changeover switches for backup power clients
  • Fault-find tripping circuits with a multimeter, insulation tester and loop tester
  • Terminate armoured cable and fit glands on three-phase motor supplies

What you need

  • Electrical trade test certificate (Section 13 or 26D) through a QCTO-accredited centre
  • Solid working knowledge of SANS 10142-1 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
  • At least 3 years working as a qualified electrician after your trade test
  • Valid Code 08 driver's licence
  • Your own basic hand tools and a calibrated multimeter

What you get

  • Company-issued test instruments, calibrated every year
  • Provident fund and group risk cover after probation
  • Company bakkie for call-outs and travel between sites
  • Standby allowance when you are on the after-hours roster

How to apply

  1. Read the "What you need" list above. If you tick most of it, go ahead and apply.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): trade test certificate plus driver's licence copy.
  3. Use the form on this page. It takes about two minutes and you don't need to upload anything yet.
  4. Watch for a call or WhatsApp from How2Apply over the next 10 working days.

How to stand out

  • Put your registration category (IE, MIE or single-phase tester) and registration number right under your name on the CV.
  • Many applicants forget to attach the trade test certificate itself. Recruiters often skip CVs that only mention it.
