Job Description

You'll design, protect and maintain electrical systems for the municipal electricity department in Durban Central. Expect to be trusted with real work from your first week.

You'll report in Durban Central. Relocation is not covered for this one. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

What your day looks like

Plan maintenance for switchgear, transformers and motor control centres
Set and test protection relays and keep settings records
Keep single line diagrams and as-built drawings up to date
Review PLC and SCADA logic for process control and alarms
Design solar PV and battery systems and handle grid connection to NRS 097
Size cables, transformers and protection using design software
Guide technicians and contractors on site during commissioning

You'll need

Experience with at least one power system or lighting design package
BEng or BSc Eng in Electrical Engineering, or a BTech or Advanced Diploma for technologist posts
At least 3 years of electrical engineering work after graduating
Code 08 licence and willingness to travel to sites
