Job Description

Power has to be safe, reliable and legal. The water treatment utility in Potchefstroom needs you to make it so. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

The site is in Potchefstroom; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Overtime comes up in peak season and is paid.

What you'll actually do

Draw up tender specifications and bills of quantities for electrical works
Set and test protection relays and keep settings records
Guide technicians and contractors on site during commissioning
Size cables, transformers and protection using design software
Design solar PV and battery systems and handle grid connection to NRS 097
Investigate power quality problems with a power analyser

You'll need

ECSA registration as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Candidate
Code 08 licence and willingness to travel to sites
Able to write clear technical reports and specifications
Experience with at least one power system or lighting design package
Strong understanding of SANS 10142 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
At least 3 years of electrical engineering work after graduating

Extra points for

Government Certificate of Competency (Electrical, Factories or Mines)
Protection or HV operating authorisation
