Job Description

The municipal electricity department in Cape Town CBD needs an electrical engineer for projects that go from design to commissioning. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

You'll be based at a municipal electricity department in Cape Town CBD. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

The work, day to day

Inspect installations and sign off compliance on completion
Guide technicians and contractors on site during commissioning
Plan maintenance for switchgear, transformers and motor control centres
Draw up tender specifications and bills of quantities for electrical works
Review PLC and SCADA logic for process control and alarms
Design LV and MV reticulation to SANS 10142-1 and SANS 10142-2

What you need

Able to write clear technical reports and specifications
Strong understanding of SANS 10142 and the Electrical Installation Regulations
ECSA registration as Pr Eng, Pr Tech Eng or Candidate
Code 08 licence and willingness to travel to sites
BEng or BSc Eng in Electrical Engineering, or a BTech or Advanced Diploma for technologist posts

Extra points for

Renewable energy project experience above 1 MW
Protection or HV operating authorisation
