Job Description

This is hands-on electrical work in eMalahleni: new installs, repairs and CoCs that pass the first time. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll be based at a facilities management company in eMalahleni. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

What your day looks like

  • Read electrical layouts and mark out point positions before chasing walls
  • Install inverters, battery banks and changeover switches for backup power clients
  • Install and wire distribution boards, isolators and earth leakage units to SANS 10142-1
  • Complete job cards, material lists and test reports at the end of each job
  • Quote small jobs for clients and explain the fault in plain language
  • Supervise and teach an electrical assistant or apprentice on site

You'll need

  • Registered with the Department of Employment and Labour as an Installation Electrician or holding a Wireman's licence
  • Your own basic hand tools and a calibrated multimeter
  • Electrical trade test certificate (Section 13 or 26D) through a QCTO-accredited centre
  • At least 3 years working as a qualified electrician after your trade test

  • Working at Heights certificate still in date
  • N3 electrical trade theory on top of your trade test
