Job Description

Your subject, your classroom and learners who need you to believe in them: that's this faith-based independent school in Isando. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

You'll be based at a faith-based independent school in Isando. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

What your day looks like

  • Handle classroom discipline with the school's code of conduct
  • Keep learner profiles and a tidy teacher file for subject advisers
  • Supervise break duty, sport or a cultural activity each term
  • Give extra lessons to learners who are falling behind
  • Use data projectors, smartboards or tablets where the school has them
  • Prepare Grade 12 learners for prelims and the NSC exams

Must-haves

  • Clear record on the National Register for Sex Offenders and a police clearance
  • Sound knowledge of CAPS and the assessment policy for your phase
  • At least 1 year of classroom teaching, including teaching practice
  • A B.Ed, or a degree plus PGCE, in the phase and subject you'll teach

What's in it for you

  • School holidays in line with the school calendar
  • Fee discount for your own children at independent schools
  • Pension and medical aid for permanent posts

Applying, step by step

  1. Read the "What you need" list above. If you tick most of it, go ahead and apply.
  2. Get these ready, because shortlisted people are asked for them straight away: two recent lesson plans you wrote yourself, SACE registration certificate plus certified copies of your teaching qualification and academic record.
  3. Fill in the short form below with your name and a phone number you actually answer.
  4. If you're shortlisted you'll hear from us within 6 working days, usually by phone.

How2Apply recruits for this position on behalf of hiring employers around Isando; applications go into our talent pool and shortlisted candidates are introduced directly.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

How to stand out

  • Bring a short sample lesson to the interview; many schools ask you to teach for 15 minutes.
  • Mention the extra-murals you can run, as smaller schools often choose the teacher who can also coach.
