Job Description

You'll plan and teach CAPS lessons that stick at an independent primary school in Mthatha. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Home base is an independent primary school on the Mthatha side of Eastern Cape. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

What your day looks like

  • Meet parents to discuss progress, behaviour and support plans
  • Set, mark and moderate formal assessment tasks for the term
  • Use data projectors, smartboards or tablets where the school has them
  • Capture marks on SA-SAMS or the school's reporting platform before deadlines
  • Plan weekly lessons against the CAPS annual teaching plan
  • Handle classroom discipline with the school's code of conduct

You'll need

  • At least 1 year of classroom teaching, including teaching practice
  • You can manage a class of 35 or more without losing control
  • Sound knowledge of CAPS and the assessment policy for your phase
  • Clear record on the National Register for Sex Offenders and a police clearance
  • Good spoken and written command of the language of teaching
  • Full SACE registration (provisional registration only for student or newly qualified teachers)

Nice if you have

  • Experience marking for the NSC or IEB
  • Comfortable with Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams for homework
