Enrolled Nurse (Day Clinic)

Here you help people wash, eat, move and heal, at a private medical ward in Durban Central. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll be based at a private medical ward in Durban Central. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse
• Spot confusion, falls risk or changes in mood and tell the nurse in charge
• Keep families updated on routine matters and pass clinical questions to the sister
• Do simple wound dressings and report anything that looks infected
• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores

• Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends
• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
• Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
• Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people

• Dementia care or palliative care short course
• Code B or Code 8 driver's licence for home visits
• A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve

• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
• Uniform supplied

• Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
• Recruiters phone references for care jobs, so warn your references and check their numbers still work.
