Enrolled Nurse (Surgical Ward)

Here you help people wash, eat, move and heal, at a hospice in-patient unit in Centurion. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

The site is in Centurion; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying.

• Follow infection control rules, including hand hygiene and safe sharps disposal
• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores
• Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises
• Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse
• Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
• Take and chart temperature, pulse, blood pressure and blood glucose
• Make beds, change linen and keep the rooms clean and uncluttered

• SANC enrolment as an Enrolled Nurse or Enrolled Nursing Auxiliary for nursing posts
• Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely
• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate
• Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people

• A second South African language spoken by the patients you'll serve
• Code B or Code 8 driver's licence for home visits

• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
• Uniform supplied
• Meals provided on shift at many frail care centres
• Overtime paid at time and a half

• Recruiters phone references for care jobs, so warn your references and check their numbers still work.
• Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
