Estate Housekeeper (Large Home)

Cleaning, laundry and a hand with the kids: that is the week in a large estate home in Alberton. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll report in Alberton. Relocation is not covered for this one. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Help an elderly person with meals, medication reminders and light walking
• Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas on a weekly rotation
• Keep a list of cleaning supplies running low for the employer
• Wash, hang, iron and fold the household's laundry
• Water indoor plants and feed pets
• Change bed linen and make beds
• Get children ready for school and supervise homework in the afternoon

• South African ID or valid work permit
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines
• Able to speak and understand basic English
• Good with children and patient

• A driver's licence for school lifts
• Cooking experience with family meals

• Transport money for live-out staff
• Registered for UIF and COIDA by the employer
• Written contract with fixed hours and duties
• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires

• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
• Families hire on trust, so make references your strongest part. Write the employer's name, suburb, years worked and phone number for each one.
