Estate Housekeeper (Large Home)

Cleaning, laundry and a hand with the kids: that is the week in a retired couple's cottage in Ballito. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

This post is Ballito-based, with most of your time spent at a retired couple's cottage. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Keep a list of cleaning supplies running low for the employer
• Water indoor plants and feed pets
• Prepare simple meals or school lunches when asked
• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards
• Get children ready for school and supervise homework in the afternoon
• Change bed linen and make beds
• Wash, hang, iron and fold the household's laundry

• Good with children and patient
• Able to speak and understand basic English
• Trustworthy, with references from previous employers you can share
• Neat, organised and able to work without being supervised
• Able to handle a full-day physical routine

• A driver's licence for school lifts
• Basic first aid or child CPR course
• Non-smoker

• Transport money for live-out staff
• Written contract with fixed hours and duties
• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires

• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
• Ask for a written contract and to be registered for UIF. Good employers expect the question and it protects you.
