Estate Housekeeper (Large Home)

You'll keep a guesthouse with family quarters in Richards Bay clean, calm and running smoothly for the family. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

This post is Richards Bay-based, with most of your time spent at a guesthouse with family quarters. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Dust furniture, ornaments and skirting boards
• Water indoor plants and feed pets
• Clean bedrooms, bathrooms, kitchen and living areas on a weekly rotation
• Prepare simple meals or school lunches when asked
• Wash, hang, iron and fold the household's laundry
• Clean windows and patio doors once a week

• Good with children and patient
• Willing to follow the family's house rules and routines
• Neat, organised and able to work without being supervised
• Able to handle a full-day physical routine
• South African ID or valid work permit
• Able to speak and understand basic English

• Cooking experience with family meals
• A driver's licence for school lifts
• Basic first aid or child CPR course

• Own room with bathroom for live-in posts
• Registered for UIF and COIDA by the employer
• Paid annual leave and public holidays as the law requires

• Say plainly what you can and cannot do: cooking, ironing, childcare, driving. It avoids arguments later and families like honesty.
• Families hire on trust, so make references your strongest part. Write the employer's name, suburb, years worked and phone number for each one.
