Farm General Worker (Vegetable Fields)

Crops do not wait, and a deciduous fruit orchard near Epping needs extra hands this season. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

You'll report in Epping. Relocation is not covered for this one. Most weeks are 45 hours, in line with the BCEA.

• Wash hands and use the field toilets for food safety
• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently
• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay
• Prune and thin fruit trees and vines to the farm's method
• Fill crates or bins and carry them to the collection point
• Weed beds by hand or with a hoe

• Able to work outdoors in heat, cold and rain
• Available for the full harvest season
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
• Valid ID or work permit
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders

• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees
• Previous harvest or picking experience

• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage

• Have your bank details ready. Most farms pay into a bank account and will not start you without it.
• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
