Farm General Worker (Vegetable Fields) – Experienced

Harvest time on a berry tunnel farm near Somerset West means early mornings, full crates and paid overtime. If you like clear targets and knowing where you stand, this is for you.

Home base is a berry tunnel farm on the Somerset West side of Western Cape.

• Clean and store picking bags, ladders and secateurs
• Fill crates or bins and carry them to the collection point
• Prune and thin fruit trees and vines to the farm's method
• Weed beds by hand or with a hoe
• Tie up tomato and pepper plants in tunnels

• Willing to start at sunrise
• Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders

• Tractor or quad bike experience
• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees
• Living on or near the farm

• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms
• Farm transport from nearby towns

• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
