Field Service Diesel Mechanic (Roadside Breakdowns)

Keep trucks on the road and earning at the truck dealership workshop in Middelburg (MP). If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

The work is in Middelburg (MP), Mpumalanga, so you'll need a reliable way to get there every day. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

• Attend roadside breakdowns in the service truck
• Carry out pre-roadworthy checks before the vehicle goes for COF testing
• Inspect tyres, fifth wheels and kingpins for wear and damage
• Record parts used and hours worked on the fleet system
• Repair gearboxes, differentials and clutches on heavy vehicles
• Service trucks and trailers on the planned maintenance schedule

• Solid understanding of air brake systems
• Code 14 licence so you can move and test trucks
• Experience with electronic diagnostics on modern diesel engines
• At least 3 years on heavy commercial vehicles or plant

• Brand-specific heavy vehicle courses
• Auto electrical skills
• Hydraulic systems training

• Standby and call-out allowance
• Heavy-duty tools supplied by the workshop
• Overtime available most weeks

• List the truck and engine types you have worked on, including electronic systems. Fleet managers screen for those.
• Mention roadside or field experience. Many fleets need mechanics who can work alone at a breakdown.
