Fitter (Underground Engineering)

This coal mine engineering workshop near Kathu needs a trade-tested artisan who is safe, quick and thorough on breakdowns. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

The site is in Kathu; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Maintain pumps, fans and compressors in shafts and on surface
• Test and maintain flameproof electrical equipment in coal sections
• Isolate and lock out machines under the site isolation procedure
• Carry out planned maintenance on loaders, drill rigs and utility vehicles
• Fault-find hydraulic, electrical and engine faults on trackless machines

• N3 certificate or Grade 12 with maths and science
• Trade test certificate in your trade (diesel mechanic, fitter, electrician, boilermaker, instrumentation or rigger)
• Certificate of fitness for underground or surface work
• Willing to do standby and call-outs on a roster
• Understands MHSA duties for artisans, including lockout and permits
• Able to read schematics, hydraulic circuits or wiring diagrams

• SAP PM module experience
• Government Certificate of Competency studies in progress
• Experience with collision avoidance systems on TMM

• Tool allowance or company-issued toolbox
• Housing support in the mining town
• Artisan allowance on top of basic pay
• Study assistance for engineering qualifications

• Your trade test certificate must show the trade and the date. Keep a certified copy ready because mines verify it.
• State your trade and the machines or equipment you know best, for example "fitter: conveyors, crushers and pumps".
