Fitter (Underground Engineering)

When production stops, the artisans get it going again. The platinum mine engineering department near Polokwane needs you on that team. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at a platinum mine engineering department in Polokwane. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

• Guide and teach an artisan assistant on the job
• Order spares and track them through the engineering store
• Repair and align conveyor belt drives, pulleys and idlers
• Take part in weekend shutdowns for major overhauls
• Maintain pumps, fans and compressors in shafts and on surface

• Understands MHSA duties for artisans, including lockout and permits
• Certificate of fitness for underground or surface work
• N3 certificate or Grade 12 with maths and science
• Trade test certificate in your trade (diesel mechanic, fitter, electrician, boilermaker, instrumentation or rigger)

• Experience with collision avoidance systems on TMM
• Government Certificate of Competency studies in progress

• Housing support in the mining town
• Tool allowance or company-issued toolbox
• Study assistance for engineering qualifications
• Artisan allowance on top of basic pay

• Your trade test certificate must show the trade and the date. Keep a certified copy ready because mines verify it.
• State your trade and the machines or equipment you know best, for example "fitter: conveyors, crushers and pumps".
