Job Description

You'll plant, prune and fell trees for a sawmill in the hills near Durban Central. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

Home base is a sawmill on the Durban Central side of KwaZulu-Natal.

The work, day to day

Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season
Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times
Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks

What you need

Available for early starts and fire-season standby
Passes the medical check for fire crews
Valid ID
Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader

Helpful, not essential

Chainsaw operator certificate
Previous plantation or sawmill experience
