Forestry Fire Crew Member (Winter Season) – Entry Level

Hard, outdoor work on a forestry contractor near eMalahleni, with training on chainsaws and fire safety. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

You'll be based at a forestry contractor in eMalahleni. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. You'll start with a short induction before working on your own.

• Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times
• Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
• Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
• Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
• Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks
• Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
• Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders

• Valid ID
• Willing to work in remote areas
• Passes the medical check for fire crews
• Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires

• First-aid training
• Fire fighting training
• Chainsaw operator certificate

• Chainsaw and fire training at no cost
• Fire-season standby allowance
• Crew transport to plantations

• Say you are fit and do not mind remote sites. Many applicants drop out after the first week, so recruiters test commitment.
• Mention fire fighting experience, even as a volunteer. Fire protection crews look for it before winter.
