Job Description

Winter fire season is near, and a forestry contractor near Umhlanga needs crews ready. Good for someone who wants to build a solid track record they can put on their CV.

Home base is a forestry contractor on the Umhlanga side of KwaZulu-Natal.

What your day looks like

Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times
Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
Fight veld fires with beaters and water packs under a crew leader
Stack logs by length for loading onto trucks
Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks

You'll need

Available for early starts and fire-season standby
Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
Valid ID
Passes the medical check for fire crews
Physically strong and fit for steep slopes

Helpful, not essential

Chainsaw operator certificate
Previous plantation or sawmill experience
First-aid training
