Forestry Team Supervisor (Silviculture)

You'll plant, prune and fell trees for a pine plantation in the hills near Durban Central. It's the kind of job where doing the basics well every day gets you noticed.

Home base is a pine plantation on the Durban Central side of KwaZulu-Natal.

• Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times
• Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
• Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
• Clear and maintain firebreaks during the dry season
• Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
• Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks

• Valid ID
• Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
• Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
• Passes the medical check for fire crews

• Previous plantation or sawmill experience
• Fire fighting training

• Full safety gear provided
• Crew transport to plantations
• Fire-season standby allowance

• Say you are fit and do not mind remote sites. Many applicants drop out after the first week, so recruiters test commitment.
• If you have a chainsaw ticket, put it at the top. Certified operators earn more and are hired first.
