Job Description

Hard, outdoor work on a pine plantation near Secunda, with training on chainsaws and fire safety. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

You'll be based at a pine plantation in Secunda. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps.

The work, day to day

Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
Prune lower branches with pruning saws and ladders
Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks
Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
Wear chainsaw chaps, helmets and ear protection at all times
Sharpen and service chainsaws daily

Must-haves

Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
Available for early starts and fire-season standby
Valid ID
Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
Passes the medical check for fire crews
Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
