Job Description

Winter fire season is near, and a pine plantation near Umhlanga needs crews ready. It's a practical job: you'll see what you got done before you go home.

Home base is a pine plantation on the Umhlanga side of KwaZulu-Natal. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

What your day looks like

Plant seedlings in prepared pits at the right spacing
Sharpen and service chainsaws daily
Fell, debranch and cross-cut trees with a chainsaw
Apply herbicide around young trees as instructed
Feed logs into sawmill machines and stack planks

You'll need

Follows safety rules strictly around machines and fires
Able to work in a crew and follow the crew leader
Physically strong and fit for steep slopes
Passes the medical check for fire crews
Valid ID

Helpful, not essential

Fire fighting training
Chainsaw operator certificate
