Job Description

A faith-based independent school in Kariega needs a teacher who can hold a class and lift the marks. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

The site is in Kariega; early starts mean public transport timing matters, so check your route before applying. Hours are mostly Monday to Friday, with the odd Saturday in busy months.

The work, day to day

  • Meet parents to discuss progress, behaviour and support plans
  • Give extra lessons to learners who are falling behind
  • Attend staff meetings, subject meetings and district workshops
  • Use data projectors, smartboards or tablets where the school has them
  • Keep learner profiles and a tidy teacher file for subject advisers

You'll need

  • Clear record on the National Register for Sex Offenders and a police clearance
  • Full SACE registration (provisional registration only for student or newly qualified teachers)
  • At least 1 year of classroom teaching, including teaching practice
  • Good spoken and written command of the language of teaching

Nice if you have

  • Experience with remedial or inclusive education
  • Comfortable with Google Classroom or Microsoft Teams for homework

What's in it for you

  • Fee discount for your own children at independent schools
  • Pension and medical aid for permanent posts
  • Housing allowance for SGB and state-funded posts where it applies
  • Paid SACE CPTD workshops

Applying, step by step

  1. Read the "What you need" list above. If you tick most of it, go ahead and apply.
  2. Have the following on hand (clear photos on your phone are fine at first): certified copies of your teaching qualification and academic record, two recent lesson plans you wrote yourself plus police clearance issued in the last 6 months.
  3. Fill in the short form below with your name and a phone number you actually answer.
  4. Watch for a call or WhatsApp from How2Apply over the next 6 working days.

How2Apply recruits for this position on behalf of hiring employers around Kariega; applications go into our talent pool and shortlisted candidates are introduced directly.

How2Apply never charges you to apply, for training, for uniforms or for a "placement fee". If anyone asks you for money, it is a scam.

Before you hit apply

  • Put your SACE number, phase and subjects on the first line of your CV; heads sort applications by subject first.
  • Mention the extra-murals you can run, as smaller schools often choose the teacher who can also coach.
