Frail Care Assistant (Retirement Village)

Your care keeps residents at a retirement village frail care centre in Khayelitsha safe, clean and comfortable through the day. Someone who likes a bit of variety, but also likes doing things the right way, will enjoy this.

This post is Khayelitsha-based, with most of your time spent at a retirement village frail care centre. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

• Turn bed-bound patients on schedule and check pressure areas for early sores
• Help patients bath, dress, eat and use the toilet with dignity
• Help patients walk, transfer from bed to chair and do their exercises
• Keep the fluid and food intake charts accurate for every patient
• Hand out oral medication under the supervision of a registered nurse

• Patient and gentle with elderly, frail or confused people
• Accredited home-based care or ancillary health care certificate for caregiver posts
• Physically strong enough to lift and move patients safely
• Matric or NQF Level 4 equivalent
• Able to work shifts, including nights and weekends
• First aid Level 1 or BLS certificate

• Transport home after late shifts at some facilities
• Overtime paid at time and a half
• Paid training in dementia and end-of-life care

• If you're a caregiver, attach the certificate from the training provider, not just a letter saying you attended.
• Name the type of patients you've cared for, such as stroke patients or dementia residents, in your first CV line.
