Frail Care Centre Cleaner

Careful, trained cleaners are wanted at a day surgery clinic in East London. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

This post is East London-based, with most of your time spent at a day surgery clinic. There's a probation period of three months before the contract is confirmed.

• Fill in cleaning logs so infection control can audit the ward
• Do terminal cleans of isolation rooms after a patient is discharged
• Move patients' belongings and equipment when rooms change
• Clean patient rooms using colour-coded cloths and mops for each area
• Handle and bag medical waste in the right coloured bins
• Take soiled linen to the sluice room and bring clean linen back

• Up to date with vaccinations the hospital requires, such as hepatitis B
• Calm under pressure in busy wards
• Matric or Grade 11
• Not squeamish about blood, vomit or medical waste
• Able to work shifts including weekends and night duty
• Willing to follow strict infection control steps every time

• Knowledge of healthcare waste handling rules
• An infection prevention and control short course

• On-the-job infection control training
• Shift allowances for nights and Sundays
• Meal on shift at the staff canteen
• Medical aid option through the employer
