Frail Care Centre Cleaner

Clean really matters at a community health clinic in Kariega; here it stops infections spreading. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

Home base is a community health clinic on the Kariega side of Eastern Cape.

• Clean patient rooms using colour-coded cloths and mops for each area
• Do terminal cleans of isolation rooms after a patient is discharged
• Clean theatres between operations to the hospital's turnaround times
• Mop spills of blood or fluids using the spill kit
• Move patients' belongings and equipment when rooms change
• Wear gowns, masks and gloves as each room requires
• Fill in cleaning logs so infection control can audit the ward

• Matric or Grade 11
• Able to work shifts including weekends and night duty
• Willing to follow strict infection control steps every time
• Up to date with vaccinations the hospital requires, such as hepatitis B

• Meal on shift at the staff canteen
• Shift allowances for nights and Sundays
• On-the-job infection control training
• Medical aid option through the employer

• If you did an infection control course, attach the certificate. It moves you ahead of general cleaners.
• Mention any hospital, clinic or old-age home work first, even if it was short. Healthcare recruiters shortlist people who know ward routines.
