Gate Security Officer (Residential Estate)

The gate at a gated residential estate in Soweto is the first line of safety, and you would be standing at it. You don't need to be the loudest person in the room, just the one others can count on.

You'll be based at a gated residential estate in Soweto. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Write every incident and shift change in the occurrence book (OB)
• Direct traffic and parking during school drop-off or big events
• Call the armed response or SAPS number from the call list when needed
• Open and close boom gates for residents, deliveries and contractors
• Hand out and collect contractor access cards

• Clear, neat handwriting for the OB and registers
• Able to work 12-hour day and night shifts, including weekends
• Speaks and writes basic English
• Physically fit for foot patrols
• Alert, polite and firm with the public

• Provident fund contributions
• Paid night-shift allowance under the security sector rules
• Uniform, boots and winter jacket issued

• Make sure your PSIRA fees are paid. A lapsed registration gets your CV thrown out, even if you have years of experience.
• List the types of sites you have guarded, like estate, mall or factory. Security companies place officers by site experience.
