Here you run the site: labour, materials, quality and progress for the low-cost housing developer in George. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is George-based, with most of your time spent at a low-cost housing developer. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Run toolbox talks and support the safety officer on Construction Regulations compliance
• Check reinforcing, shuttering and cover blocks before calling for a pour inspection
• Book NHBRC and municipal inspections at the right stages
• Measure completed work for monthly payment certificates
• Check workmanship against drawings, specifications and SANS 10400
• Keep the site diary, daily labour returns and plant hours up to date
• Plan the week's work from the construction programme and brief the gangs each morning

• Good with MS Project or a similar programme tool
• Working knowledge of the Construction Regulations 2014 under the OHS Act
• Code 08 licence and your own reliable transport between sites
• Firm with labour, fair with subcontractors
• You can read architectural and structural drawings and pick up clashes

• Concrete technology short course
• SACPCMP registration as a Construction Manager or Candidate

• Vehicle allowance or company bakkie
• Project completion bonus linked to handover date
• Site accommodation on out-of-town projects
• Cellphone and laptop supplied

• Add a short project table to your CV: project name, type, rand value and your role. Contractors hire on project size.
• A common mistake is listing only company names. Say what you built, for example "32 walk-up flats, 3 storeys".
