Job Description

Roads, water, buildings: the road agency project office in Cape Town CBD needs a civil engineer who can take a project from design to site. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

This post is Cape Town CBD-based, with most of your time spent at a road agency project office. Start date: as soon as possible for the right person.

What you'll actually do

Check drawings from technicians and sign them for issue
Prepare tender documents under GCC 2015 or NEC contracts
Write design reports and handover documents
Design reinforced concrete and steel structures to SANS 10100 and SANS 10162
Chair site meetings and handle contractor queries
Design water pipelines, sewers and stormwater systems with hydraulic software
Act as resident engineer: inspect works, measure quantities and certify payments

Must-haves

Good grasp of South African design codes for your field
Able to explain technical issues to clients and contractors
Code 08 licence and willingness to spend time on site
Experience with structural or hydraulic design software
At least 3 years in design or construction supervision
BEng, BSc Eng or BTech in Civil Engineering

Extra points for

Registration with SAICE and active CPD
Experience on public sector infrastructure projects
