Job Description

Roads, water, buildings: the municipal infrastructure department in Gqeberha needs a civil engineer who can take a project from design to site. If you turn up on time and finish what you start, you'll fit in quickly.

You'll be based at a municipal infrastructure department in Gqeberha. Living nearby, or on a taxi route to it, really helps. The first two weeks are spent shadowing someone experienced.

The work, day to day

Design reinforced concrete and steel structures to SANS 10100 and SANS 10162
Write design reports and handover documents
Act as resident engineer: inspect works, measure quantities and certify payments
Check drawings from technicians and sign them for issue
Apply for municipal wayleaves and building plan approvals

Must-haves

Good grasp of South African design codes for your field
At least 3 years in design or construction supervision
Experience with structural or hydraulic design software
Code 08 licence and willingness to spend time on site

Nice if you have

Contract management training for NEC or GCC
Experience on public sector infrastructure projects
