Grader Operator (Road Construction)

You'll move earth, dig trenches and shape roads for the quarry and aggregate supplier in Durban Central. You'll work with a small crew, so being easy to work with matters as much as skill.

Location: Durban Central, KwaZulu-Natal. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Load tipper trucks without spillage or overloading
• Watch for underground services and follow the banksman's signals
• Compact layers with the roller until density tests pass
• Grease the machine daily and report leaks or damage straight away
• Backfill and compact around pipes in layers

• Operator certificate for the machine class, from an accredited training provider
• Good depth perception and no history of machine accidents
• Medical certificate of fitness for operating mobile plant
• Willing to work on projects outside your home town

• Basic plant maintenance or mechanical knowledge
• PrDP for tipper or lowbed work

• Camp accommodation or a living-out allowance on remote sites
• Overtime paid on all hours past 45 a week
• Travel home paid at the end of each site shift cycle

• Put your operator certificate numbers on the CV. Site safety files need them before you start.
• You will likely do a practical test on the machine. Do the walk-around check out loud. It shows you work safely.
