Job Description

Harvest time on a commercial seedling nursery near Johannesburg CBD means early mornings, full crates and paid overtime. If you learn fast and don't mind being shown things twice, you'll settle in within a few weeks.

This post is Johannesburg CBD-based, with most of your time spent at a commercial seedling nursery.

What you'll actually do

Wash hands and use the field toilets for food safety
Weed beds by hand or with a hoe
Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently
Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
Prune and thin fruit trees and vines to the farm's method
Fill crates or bins and carry them to the collection point
Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay

You'll need

Careful with fruit, since bruised fruit is rejected
Able to work outdoors in heat, cold and rain
Willing to start at sunrise
Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
Valid ID or work permit

Nice if you have

Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees
Previous harvest or picking experience
