Grape Harvest Worker (Wine Farm)

You'll pick, prune and look after crops on a vegetable farm near Welkom through the season. Bring a calm head on busy days and you'll be fine.

Location: Welkom, Free State. Applicants who already live in the area get looked at first. Weekend work is on a roster, so you won't be on every weekend.

• Weed beds by hand or with a hoe
• Pick fruit or vegetables at the right ripeness and size, gently
• Fill crates or bins and carry them to the collection point
• Wash hands and use the field toilets for food safety
• Plant seedlings in rows at the spacing shown
• Keep your picking card or tag count for daily pay
• Prune and thin fruit trees and vines to the farm's method

• Follows farm hygiene and safety rules
• Physically fit for bending, lifting and climbing ladders
• Willing to start at sunrise
• Able to work outdoors in heat, cold and rain
• Valid ID or work permit

• Living on or near the farm
• Pruning experience on vines or fruit trees

• Chance of a permanent post after good seasons
• Piece-rate bonus on top of daily wage
• Farm transport from nearby towns
• Seasonal accommodation on some farms

• Farms hire before the season starts, so apply four to six weeks early. Late arrivals often find the teams already full.
• If you have picked before, say which crop and how many seasons. Farms rehire experienced pickers first.
